First Steps

To start on the right foot and with the right food your keto journey, you have to follow a few simple steps. I did a lot of research before I started and I’ll try to summarise the steps that are required and how I did.

1. Calculate your Calories and Macros

Calculate your macros. The ideal percentage I am trying to follow is 5% Carbs, 25% Protein and 70% Fat. I used an online calculator to calculate my macros for Keto. The target was too loose as much as possible, as soon as possible.

My calorie intake to loose weight should be under 1200 calories. Out of which, I personally need to get up to 18g of Net Carbs, 91 g Protein and 113 g of Fat.

Checking the macros and the nutrients for everything I ate was not easy and trying constantly to add up to those limits was a challenge. It;s not something that can be sustained, but it’s something you learn and you get the feel of it and then you just eat naturally within those limits.

2. Follow Stric Keto Diet

Until you get the principles behind it right, you have to understand your Macros and follow a strict Keto diet.

3. Drink Water and Electrolytes

Drink more than 6 large glasses of water per day to avoid the Keto Flu. Electrolytes or sour soups are a great way to combat the Keto flu.

4. Test Your Ketone Level

Monitor your ketones levels using Ketone strips or keto blood monitors. This will show if you have reached ketosis and what level you are.
